Verizon Said to Be Carrier For Second Motorola Android Phone

The device will be available from Verizon in the fourth quarter, said the person, who declined to be named because the agreement isnt public.

Motorola, the biggest U.S. mobile-phone maker, introduced the Cliq phone yesterday, its first based on Android. T-Mobile USA Inc. will distribute that device in the U.S. Motorola said it would introduce a second phone with a different U.S. carrier, without saying which one.

Brenda Raney, a Verizon spokeswoman, declined to comment, as did Motorolas Kristine Mulford. Katie Watson, a spokeswoman for Mountain View, California-based Google, also declined to comment.

Verizon Wireless, based in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, is co-owned by Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group Plc.

Motorola, based in Schaumburg, Illinois, rose 71 cents, or 8.9 percent, to $8.68 today on the New York Stock Exchange. Verizon Communications, based in New York, fell 9 cents to $31.26.
